![]() ![]() However, to lower the gain enough make it go away, one must get into a territory that turns the 5150 into a "medium gain" amp, basically right below where the 5150 sounds like it's known to sound like and do what it's supposed to do, which is act like a high gain amp.Īs far as I can deduce, the TAE has a massive magnetic field that forces me to have to annoyingly place the unit out of "ergonomic reach" to use. ![]() What is unfortunate, is that this is a distance at which you are normally at to make manual adjustments to the unit.Īs for the other part of the troubleshooting, lowering the gain does minimize it or make it go away. Getting close to the TAE with the guitar, away from the Amp itself, again instantly causes *instant* microphonic feedback. I'm not sure if that's a function of having the TAE connected or not, because I can't normally get the amp to be that quiet normally in the first place! The noise getting close to just the head also isn't like "instant feedback." Some additional noise does come from getting close to the Amp with the guitar (even at low volimes). With that in mind, I put the TAE on a table to the side, and the feedback was reduced. If such noise occurs, try adjusting the gain setting on the tube amp to an appropriate level or moving the WAZA Tube Amp Expander and guitar farther apart. Q: Feedback noise occurs when I connect a guitar to the tube amp connected to the WAZA Tube Amp Expander.ĭepending on the connected tube amp and guitar, if the gain is too high, oscillation may be produced by an acoustic or electromagnetic loop. So I looked at the troubleshooting guide from BOSS online Closer to the TAE, and the feedback was insane. Closer to the 5150 head, and the feedback was much more. ![]() I then got close to the floor, in front of the 4x12 and the feedback was less. If I get close enough to the stack with the guitar in order to make adjustments, even at ultra low volumes, the microphonic feedback sound occurs instantly, like someone plugged an sm58 into a metal zone, cracked the gain on max, and put the mic in front of a PA speaker turned up. This varies from user to user, but those are the most commonly average settings used with this amp. This is a high gain amp, but I don't have the grain cranked past 6, which is usually where people set it to on this amp, unless they are boosting it, which then calls more for a gain setting at around 4. In gender, I'm liking what I hear, except that I have experienced one pretty annoying side effect using this device, which sounds like microphonic feedback, at any volume (even dead quiet) when getting anywhere near it with a guitar.Īt first, I placed the TAE on top of my 5150, with the 5150 on top of my 4x12. It works quite well in most respects as an attenuator (except for the issue at hand) and I'm confident it will work well for loading IR's. So far, due to time constraints, I've only had the chance to use it as an attenuator. I got a BOSS Waza Tube Amp Expander recently. Medium gains, crunch, and cleans are all good. ![]()
